Fried Green Tomatoes with Spicy Remoulade: Crispy, Tangy, and Zesty Perfection
🧂 Ingredients (Serves 4)

For the Fried Green Tomatoes:

  • 3 medium green tomatoes, sliced 1/4-inch thick
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup cornmeal
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs (panko or traditional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

For the Spicy Remoulade:

  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon chopped capers
  • 1 tablespoon pickle relish
  • 1 teaspoon prepared horseradish
  • 1 teaspoon hot sauce (or to taste)
  • 1 garlic clove, finely minced
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

🔥 Instructions

Prep the Tomatoes: Season the tomato slices with salt and pepper. Let them sit on a paper towel for 10 minutes to draw out excess moisture.

Set Up Your Breading Station: Place flour in one shallow bowl. In a second bowl, whisk eggs and buttermilk together. In a third, mix cornmeal, breadcrumbs, and paprika.

Bread the Tomatoes: Dredge each tomato slice in flour, then dip in the egg mixture, and finally coat with the breadcrumb-cornmeal mix. Press lightly to adhere.

Fry to Golden Perfection: Heat about 1/2 inch of oil in a cast iron skillet or heavy pan over medium heat. Fry the tomato slices in batches for 2–3 minutes per side until golden and crispy. Drain on paper towels.

Mix the Remoulade: While tomatoes are frying, whisk together all remoulade ingredients in a bowl. Chill until ready to serve.

Serve: Arrange the fried green tomatoes on a platter and serve with the spicy remoulade on the side—or drizzle it over the top for extra flair.
